What was the Red Scare?
The Red Fear was the fear of communism, especially the idea that
communism would take over America. This was due to the Red Scare held by the Bolsheviks, a
time in which Palmer and Hoover would hunt down suspected socialists and anarchists.
What was the American reaction to the Red Scare?
America's reaction to the Red Scare was
that extreme to the point that people such as Hoover and Palmer would hunt down suspected
socialists and anarchists. Wall Street was bombed, as was Palmer's house. Americans began
fearing foreigners.
What did the Sacco and Venzetti Case show about America?
It showed that Americans were
scared of people's heritage, not necessarily their deeds. For example, in the Saco and Venzetti
two Italians were given the death penalty although their alibi was fairly clean. They were afraid
of Italian heritage.
What were the social reactions to the fear of Immigrants in American society?
People begin forming clans such as the Ku Klux Klan because they genuinely believed that African
Americans, Roman Catholics, Jews, and Japanese were a danger to the WASPs (Whites, Anglo
Saxons, Protestants). The Birth of a Nation movie, the 1921
Quota System, and the 1924 Immigration Act, also known as the Reed- Johnson Act was
created.
